Buses, Obstructions and Total Quality Management (OMMC Orientation, Day 1)
Hohoho..Zee is back for regular blogging again. XDAs part of a 'requirement' in Hospital Dentistry 1, I'll be blogging about our -adventures- in Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center (which started today 06/26, and will continue every wednesday).To start off, I guess a short history or brief description of the place would be a nice thing to do eh? XD Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center is situated at the corner of Harrison and Roxas Boulevard and functions as an acute, nonprofit, general hospital which provides free inpatient and outpatient medical care to all manila residents. The director of this place is Dr. Christia Padolina...and the Chief Dentist is Dr. Esther Santos.Soooooooo.......The day started normally, woke up around 5am, fixed my things and readied myself for the trip to Malolos.(since we agreed to meet up at the FX terminal there by 5:30). Wasn't able to eat breakfast, so I just bought some bread from the bakeshop while we waited for the group to be completed. Glenie came last, since she had some trouble getting water (afaik malolos lost power and water the night before). Took off around 6 and reached the said place at 7:25 or so. Rhaein and Ding came fist, then our group, Gian then Ryan. EVent started around 8:30 or so.Things I remembered in the first part of the orientation were : -Total Quality Management. I remember them talking about this, together with the 5S thingy. (not to be that nitpicky, but i did not find the OB-GYN section quite...5S-ful.)-Some brief intros on some parts of the hospital plus an intermission number too.(and another note. the emcee bothered me and a couple of us while he was talking. his voice was just plain.....i dunno...low? Someone even commented on him sounding like Fort. we had a hard time understanding most of what he was talking about)-Anesthesia and some of the doses we could give when doing extractions or anything related to the use of local anesthetics-Some common disorders that one would encounter in a hospital setup...and then he was interrupted by a brief power outage.We were dismissed a couple of minutes later, as they people might have felt the distress of the audience due to the fact that it was around 11:50ish on the clock already and most of the people have not even taken their breakfast yet.Lunch time came and we were supposed to return by 1pm. We walked out of the place to look for a good place to eat. Canteen seemed populated due to a lot of mediola peeps going there so we took a -short- walk until we reached Shakeys. (another noteable thing that happened was Carol seemed to have a knack for crossing the road without looking, close encounters with passing vehicles e.g. bus,taxi,car)Food was okay, but it really took time before it was served. It was already 12:20+ when the food finally reached our table. I found the pizza quite bland though, but other than that, it was good. (i shouldve bought that mango juice though...we wont be eating in that place frequently anyways)Went back to the AVR afterwards and logged in around 1:25 (due to the oh so -short- walk from Shakeys) and Part 2 of the orientation started. The lecture on the common disorders was continued and finally came to an end. It was then followed by some overviews on things about the SOP in the hospital and another entertaining intermission number (a dance, to be more exact).Photo ops were also done afterwards per section and then a tour of the place followed shortly (by batches of 2 sections each)Some minor..or should I say major? uh..conflict like event happened when we reached the OPD section, some doctor was ranting about some lady student that was "obstructing" her way when she was rushing towards the ER (or some room near that place). From what I heard, the student seemed to have mimiced the doctor further making the so-called encouter more...unpleasant. So ...we heard her rant about it when we passed by the OPD and she was still rant about it after we left the place. (talk about highblooded people.)Anyways, we passed by most of the sections on out short tour (though i was not able to remember everything). It ended at the Dental Department with some follow-ups and reminders before we were dismissed. Most of us split out afterwards, taking different routes home. Nothing so unusual on the trip back...came home around past 7.There were still a couple of funny events that happened today, but i cannot seem to put my finger on it. I guess ill just update when i remember them lol.and i forgot to bring my camera btw. didnt get to charge my batteries beforehand so i found it quite futile to drag it along if it wont last event half of the event with me taking pictures and videos on the place. Leila brought hers' anyway.-Zychez
